The village, comprised of higgledy piggledy streets, is nestled down by the sea in the far south of Aberdeenshire. It has a superb convenience store with visiting Post Office, a small hotel with an excellent reputation for its food, a cosy pub with regular live music, a seafront cafe, numerous self catering properties, Johnshaven Heritage Hub Museum, pebble beaches with loads of rock pools for you to explore, fantastic facilities for caravaners and campers at the community owned, Wairds Park campsite – a park with tennis courts, putting, bowling green and lots of play equipment, an annual extravaganza – Johnshaven Fish Festival – a fun day out for everyone in mid-late August.

Close by there is Dunnottar Castle – a spellbinding, stunningly photogenic ruin, Mill of Benholm, a restored and fully working water-powered meal mill, miles of sandy beaches at St Cyrus, Montrose and Lunan Bay, a pick-your-own fruit farm with excellent cafe and an extensive play area, puffins and other cliff nesting birds at Fowlsheugh RSPB Nature Reserve, Stonehaven’s famous Art Deco, heated open air swimming pool, Montrose Basin is a haven for birds with an excellent visitor centre and hides, Crathes Castle and grounds are less than an hour’s drive away.
